Mile High Denver of ARMA presents "Give Back to Our Community" Charity Challenge 2009/2010
“Give a Day - Get a Day”
Need another reason to join our Charity Challenge? Disney Theme Parks has come up with a way to reward yourself and volunteer your time. Disney has a program this year that if you volunteer one day (8 hours) with a charity on their list, you can be eligible for a one-day, one-theme park pass. There is only one pass per person but you can have your entire family volunteer and make it a family thing. Please go to www.disneyparks.com or more information and find volunteer opportunities in your area. I put in my zip code and received a list of 97 opportunities from which to pick. With this kind of selection, you should be able to find something that works for you and your schedule.
Be the first to say “I’m going to Disneyland (or Disney World)”.
Plus you can count your hours to toward our challenge!!!!
This year we have decided to change our philanthropic endeavor. We have made it a challenge for our members to “give back to our community” by either donating money to our charity or volunteering hours for their favorite charities or activities.
This is year-long challenge beginning in September 2009 and ending April 2010.
Most people volunteer in many ways and do not think they have time to volunteer. Many people volunteer at/for their church or religious affiliation, charities or fund-raisers such a “Tri for the CURE” or by volunteering with youth groups or activities such as coaching “Little League” or being a scout leader. All these activities are volunteering and giving back to our community.
When questioned, most people realize that they already donate their time and why not keep track of that donated time for a good cause? For those members who do not now volunteer, we hope this challenge will inspire you to pick a cause or charity and donate a few hours.
Sincerely, Kathleen Fortenberry, CRM, Chapter Charity Chairperson
Our Charity
We have selected METRO VOLUNTEERS as our charity this year. “Metro Volunteers is 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps individuals, families and corporate and community groups find volunteer opportunities at diverse service organizations throughout the metro Denver area. Our capacity-building programs and services allow volunteers to work hand-in-hand with nonprofit agencies to develop strong and vibrant communities.” To find out more about Metro Volunteers, please contact them at 303.282.1234 or www.metrovolunteers.org.
Why Metro Volunteers
Metro Volunteers offers the ability of donating money to them so they can continue to match volunteers to non profits in the Denver area especially smaller non profits that do not have resources to solicit volunteers.
Volunteers can sign up to volunteer for any of their matched non profits or add the hours that the volunteer donates to other programs or entities not on the matched non profits.
Each volunteer can set up a personal area which will allow them to track their hours for all their volunteer activities.
We have created a group for “Mile High Denver ARMA” for our members to join.
The Challenge
As a group, we are challenging our members to donate a total of 3,296 hours and $2,060 in the next 8 months.
- This equates to 16 hours and $10 per member.
- The chapter will match $0.25 per $1 donated up to $500.
To donate money
Make checks payable to “Metro Volunteers”. Send your check to:
Mile High Denver ARMA Treasurer 700 N. Colorado Blvd. #105 Denver, CO 80206.
This will allow the chapter to match our donations.
