The 2011 Spring Seminar Presenters are:
Kelly Twigger, Esq. is the owner of ESI Attorneys, a niche law firm that advises its clients on e-discovery, compliance and information management. Kelly advises her clients how to meet their e-discovery and compliance obligations in the most cost-effective manner possible by bringing her experience and expertise in managing litigation and her understanding of technology to address the client’s specific business needs. Her practice focuses in two areas: advising clients on getting a system in place to meet ediscovery and compliance obligations, and acting as national e-discovery counsel for clients on litigation matters.
Before starting ESI Attorneys, Kelly was a partner in the commercial litigation group at an AmLaw 200 law firm where she managed litigation from the garden variety breach of contract case to $100 million bet the company class actions. While maintaining a full time litigation practice, she established the firm’s e-discovery and records retention practice and grew it to over 25 members of attorneys, litigation support and knowledge management professionals. Kelly brings a common sense approach to her practice that her clients find refreshing and rewarding.
Kelly is a also nationally recognized speaker and blogger on e-discovery, data mapping and information management issues and a guest lecturer at Marquette University Law School. She also conducts workshops and seminars for clients on data mapping, and planning for and mitigating risks in utilizing social media. Kelly holds a bachelors degree from Washington University in St. Louis and graduated cum laude from Marquette University Law School.

Craig B. Shaffer, J.D. has been a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Colorado since January 2001. He is a member of the Local Rules Committee for the District Court. Magistrate Judge Shaffer graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1976 and received his juris doctor cum laude from Tulane University’s School of Law in 1979. Over the course of his career, Judge Shaffer has served as a Navy judge advocate, a senior trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice, and in private practice as a partner in two different Denver law firms.
Magistrate Judge Shaffer is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law and has taught a class in pretrial practice for the past eight years. Judge Shaffer is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Sedona Conference and has been a contributor to the University of Denver’s Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System. For the past four years, Judge Shaffer has been a member of the faculty of the Annual ALI/ABA Environmental Litigation Seminar. Judge Shaffer is a frequent presenter at conferences and seminars dealing with electronic discovery, including presentations organized by the Sedona Conference, Colorado’s Faculty of Federal Advocates, the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, BNA, the ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Section, the Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property Institute, and Georgetown University Law Center’s “Advanced E-Discovery Institute.” Judge Shaffer is a contributor to Thomson-Reuter’s publication, E-Discovery for Corporate Counsel, and the author of Motions to Compel from a Judicial Perspective, The Colorado Lawyer, November 2005.
Laura McGee, CRM is currently a Legal Analyst at Crocs, Inc., in Niwot, Colorado, and recently earned her CRM. Laura has an extensive background in corporate legal support and processes, and has been involved in records management programs at Molson Coors Brewing Company and GE Access, in addition to her current work at Crocs. She is an active member of ARMA International, and Chairperson of the Mile High Denver Chapter.
Lindy Naj, CRM works as Director of Records Management at the University of Denver. She began her career as a tenured librarian at the University of Hawaii where she led the UH Library IT division. In 2007, after many years in web startup and IT management roles in small to medium-sized businesses, Lindy transitioned into records and information management.
Ms. Naj has an MLS from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a BA in German language and literature from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She recently became a Certified Records Manager (CRM).
Wes Umemura, CISSP, CIPP has over ten years of experience assessing enterprise information security, Mr. Umemura has worked with organizations representing a broad range of industries including media and entertainment, healthcare, financial, manufacturing, and software technology. His security-related deliverables have included policy development and review, solution integration, and policy enforcement strategies with a primary focus on the insider threat. Previous corporate experiences include roles in sales, education and training, and field engineering with AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Avaya, and Vericept Corporation.
Sean Gallagher, J.D. is a shareholder in the Denver, Colorado office of Polsinelli Shughart PC, where he handles a wide breadth of complex commercial litigation matters including computer software litigation, fraud and misrepresentation claims, corporate governance disputes, and employment disputes. Mr. Gallagher has been involved in helping companies handle records management and eDiscovery issues since 1994. Mr. Gallagher counsels clients in all aspects of the records management and eDiscovery life cycle. He is the co-chair of the Technology Subcommittee of the American Bar Association’s Employment Rights and Responsibilities committee, and regularly speaks and moderates programs on electronic discovery around the country. He is a member of The Sedona Conference’s Working Group on Best Practices for Electronic Document Retention and Production, and recently drafted white papers for The Sedona Conference on proportionality and judicial tools for eDiscovery. He is currently leading the Sedona Conference team that is drafting the conference’s newest commentary on “Proportionality in the e-Discovery Process.” Gallagher was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in 2011. Mr. Gallagher has also been listed named by the prestigious Chambers USA guide as a Leading Lawyer for Business and for the last six years has been recognized as a Colorado “SuperLawyer.” Mr. Gallagher received his B.B.A. from Baylor University in 1984 and his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 1987.
Brian Starck, CRM is the Enterprise Records & Information Manager at RTD. He has been working in the records management industry for over 17 years. He is a past President of the Mile High Chapter of ARMA International and currently serves as Treasurer for the Midwest/Rocky Mountain Region. He attained his CRM in July 2002.
Stephen Dory, CRM has managed records and information for law firms, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies for over 20 years. He has been a Certified Records Manager since 1999, and active in the Mile High Chapter of ARMA, serving as its Budget Director, President, and Chairman. Steve is currently the Global Records Manager for Oracle Corporation.
Jeffrey Cox is a Problem Solver, records, business process and I.T. consultant at Improve Group here in Denver. During his 25+ years of experience, he has run his own consulting firm helping Fortune 500 organizations like Pfizer and US Airways as well as been the product manager for an acclaimed records management and imaging software company. Mr. Cox is married and has two teenage daughters who he loves to spend his off time with.
Kathy Nielsen is the Records Manager at MillerCoors in Golden, Colorado. Kathy has been with the company for 26 years with the last 9 being in records management. She is an active member of ARMA International and is currently serving as the Administration Director of the Mile High Denver Chapter, and is a candidate to sit for the CRM.
