The 2010 Spring Seminar Presenters are:
Martin D. Susec, Esq., served for seven years as Assistant Attorney General for the Constitutional Offices Section of the Ohio Attorney General's Office. During that time Mr. Susec developed a specialization in records management for public offices. Mr. Susec is currently employed as an Assistant General Counsel at Nationwide and works within the Discovery Management Unit of the Office of the Chief Legal Officer. His specialty is monitoring and advising the corporate enterprise with respect to its records and information management responsibilities and reducing risks associated with poor records management and regulatory noncompliance.
Mr. Susec graduated from The Ohio State University College of Business in 1992 and the University of Akron School of Law and College of Business in 1996. In addition to his law degree, he possesses an MBA in finance and is a nationally certified records manager. Mr. Susec is admitted to practice in Ohio, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. For years Martin co-authored the public records section of the Ohio Administrative Law Handbook published by Banks Baldwin and co-edited the Ohio Sunshine Laws Update published by the Ohio Attorney General and Ohio Auditors' offices. Mr. Susec is currently actively serving on a number of committees for ARMA International, a national professional organization for record managers. In that capacity, Mr. Susec is assisting with national recognition and acceptance of generally accepted record keeping principles (GARP) for both public and private companies.
Michael D. Purington, CRM, CDIA+, ERMm, Supervisor, Records Services at Abbott Nutrition of Abbott Laboratories, has over 10 years of experience working in the field of Records and Information Management. He has previous RIM experience at the Coca-Cola Company and Owens Corning.
Mike has been involved in starting a records management program from scratch for two large organizations. This includes setting up a records center, configuring turnkey records management software, implementing an imaging platform, developing global retention schedules, developing a secured records destruction program, and writing policies and procedures.
Mike has a B.B.A in Information Management from the University of North Dakota. He holds two professional certifications, one as a CRM (Certified Records Manager) and the other as a CDIA+(Certified Document Imaging Architech). He also holds the ERM (Electronic Records Management) Master Certification from AIIM (Association of Image and Information Management) and became Kofax Ascent Capture certified.
He is an active member of the Columbus, OH Chapter of ARMA where he’s held the positions of Chairman of the Board, President, President Elect/Program Director, Seminar Director, and Web Administrator. He was named The Chapter Member of the Year in 2002 and 2006. He is a previous ARMA International Conference speaker.
